first modern single-shot centerfire rifle, the Ruger No. 1. Today, it is still the best in its class, combining modern design with the classic beauty of a century ago.
Ruger No. 1 Tropical single shot rifles are chambered in the largest calibers for big game hunting and offer the following features:

- Sliding, shotgun-style tang safety that provides instant visibility and accessibility.
- Quarter-rib integral scope mounts that accommodate Ruger scope rings, included with each rifle at no extra cost.
- Sporting style butt-pad, grip cap and sling swivel studs.The black/grey laminated hardwood stock offered on stainless steel models is not only handsome, but also resistant to wet weather warpage which can cause shifting sight settings or degrade accuracy. Its corrosion-resistant stainless steel exterior makes it ideal for hunting in all kinds of weather.
It's action is designed to handle today's powerful cartridges. A compact, strong, simple breech mechanism allows the Ruger No. 1 single-shot to be made with a minimum of mechanical contraptions. The ejector mechanism is designed to provide great leverage at the point where the ejector engages the rim or groove of the cartridge case. It can be adjusted to provide extraction only. A sliding shotgun-type
tang safety provides both security and ease of operation.
